Gen5 90 celica gt "wild celica is bucking" spuddering and over-heating

Anyone have an idea of why my 90celica gt sputters when sitting still, it sounds like it is going to cut off, rpm is really low when ideling and it over heats; one rad hose is hot and the other is cold, what is up with that (new filters, new spark plugs, new distributor cap, new thermostate, fan switch, fan motor and sensor). It also bucks when accelarating and hesitate with a jerkyness while maintaining speed. I'm sure all this is goining to cost me big bucks so any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to take it to the shop without knowing what some of this stuff might be, being a female I will get screwed big-time.

Too many possibility. Bad ignition coil, blown head gasket, really worn piston rings, bad ignition timing, bad or missing ground wire, bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter etc.

Hi Faye,
The above fault could always be caused by a clogged rediator.
When you go to the shop ask them to thouroughly check your cooling system.
Kind Regards
Domklz

Sounds like the MAP sensor. To find out if it is, you need to disconnect the vaccum hose from the MAP sensor. If the engine stabilizes, then you need a new one. The MAP sensor is about an inch wide, round with a plug, and the vaccum hose attatches to the bottom. It is bolted onto the firewall, roughly in the middle. I had this problem with my 91 celica and had to purchase a new map sensor. About two months later, my rings went and burned the engine up. Go figure. So I scrapped the car, but pulled some parts before I did. The MAP sensor was one, so I have one if you need it- part number 89420-20190

Did it start doing this before you worked on it? On occasion I work on one thing and mess something else up.
I knocked a vacuum hose loose once and did not know it. A lot of looking around and I finally found it.
Just a thought.

I really doubt they'll reply. You can check around in our parts for sale forum or even pick up a few at a local pick-and-pull yard (if you have any) for usually rather cheap if you're not looking to pay for a brand new one
