might be getting a 2nd gen?

I was seriously looking at getting an old school toyota pickup as a second car (to have as a parts hauler for my chevy hehe). I wanted a pickup particularly because it had the 22-r motor in it.

hhooowweeevvveerrr... an '81 celica mightve just fallen in my lap. so, this might be someone tapping me on the shoulder. my question to you guys is: What kind of mods do you guys do to the carb for big power. Id assume there are rebuild kits with bigger jets and rods etc?

I saw somewhere else that the celica came with a couple of carb options, asain, weber etc. This is an st, so should i assume its an asain? what are my options for the carb?

any manifolds that would bolt up for a turbo?

An ST model is i believe just like the economy low power version. But if youve got the extra cash throw a 1g-gte in there. Now thats an engine.

yes, id be building a motor for it. my main concern was if the carb would be of any use - apparently its not.

Yeah if you want to build your motor up get rid of the nasty stock 325 CFM asian carb. If yo want to stick with a downdraft your best bet is a weber 38 outlaw carb. If you want some real poewr out of your carbs go with twin sidedrafts. When I had my 81 celica GT I built a 20R/22R hybrid and I had twin weber 40mm sidedrafts on it and that baby had a ton of low end power.

well I pieced my sidedraft carb setup together and so it only cost me abot 400 bucks but I doubt anyone can do that unless they get as lucky as me. Most new setups cost about 1400 but if you shop around on ebay you can probably pick up a set for about 800 bucks. As for the 22R it is a mean motor but not in stock form. If you build it up you can make some pretty good power out of it though. Also in my last reply I forgot to tell you that there was a turbo version of the 22R which came in the 85-87 trucks and 4 runners. They are very rare but you can still get an exhaust manifold from it brand new from toyota and then bolt up a CT26 turbo and run your lines and what not and bam you have a turbo. It is a little harder to do then I put it but you get the idea.

Pace setter is a piece of crap. What you need to do is look around on ebay for a doug thorley header. Those are the best flowing headers you can get for a 22R. Also if you want to find things for your 22R go to www.lcengineering.com All they do is make things for 22R's and tacoma 4 cylinders. You will find anything you want there.
