Buying a Celica... questions

Greetings...

I had an auto accident a few weeks ago and after getting my insurance check and scrounging more money I have been looking on the net for some used Celicas... specifically the 7th Gen 2000-present. I found a few hits, but I have a few questions for when I go for a drive.

1. Is there any way to tell a GT from a GT-S? I understand that the GT-S has a variable valve timing, so is there any marking on the engine for it that would make a GT-S stand out?

2. There is one that I found in automatic that looks realy nice. Granted - I am not going to be street racing (been stopped by too many cops for that) or taking it on a track... but does the automatic still give the Celica a powerful, seat-gripping ride? I am looking at something with a little punch from the start (I know auto won't get too punchy though) and something that will let be do little dashes down the highway when I want to pass a truck... or a friend

Any replies will help... I will be seeing this car next week and I would like to know if its even worth my while to see this car before I spend 30 minutes of my time driving to the person that has it.

BTW, its a 2001 Celica, red, with 75k miles that I am finding for $6000... thats why it is so enticing right now. I love manual trannies but I will be driving to work and school mostly now so I don't really have time to joy-ride anymore... tell me what you think

Thanks

Haven't gotten a reply from him via email. I am going to try to call him before I give up and move on the my next search. Granted $6000 is half the book value for the car but hey... he just may be nuts enough to just let it go for that price!

the gts is definiteley the way to go it has 180 hp compazred to the gt 140. the gts should say vvtl-i and the gt says vvt-i it also says gt/gts on the rear. auto is alright but if u want to unlock all of this cars potential u need a 6 speed cause most of its power is after 6k rpms.
