01 GT- Dash lighting question.

Many apologies if this has been posted some place else, I'm having a hard time finding any info whatsoever...

So the dash lights (instrument cluster) are orange and the remainder (stereo, hvac) are green. I'm sure the car didn't come from the factory this way so I was guessing maybe the previous owner had installed some white-face gauges and pulled the stock buld condoms off perhaps? Somebody give me the skinny here, I'm lost.

all productions cars, wherever they came from ( hofu, osaka, yamanashi, whaterver the f*&k) were GREEN, if it's got orange lights, somebody put indiglo gauges on it, change them to green, you'll be allright.

heh, I couldn't find my login info and kept forgetting where I posted this thread...

Yeah, after I posted this thread my wife (embarrassing, I know) informed me that it was the stock configuration. But in my defense, the car is her's not mine.

Anyway, I managed to dig up a similar thread over at new celica. The guys that posted up were changing their lights by using bulb condoms, led's and some had painted them. The issues seem to be the same that I have run into while attemting color changes with the lights in my wrx; red looks ok with condoms, whereas blue is dim and/or aqua-colored. led's are a good choice, but can be trouble-some. I have no input on painting as I haven't bothered with that method yet (and don't really want to if I can avoid it).

So has anybody here used the condoms, and if so, do you know the sizes needed to change everything?

Thx guys!

I've tried painting, red works great, blue isnt so good because its too dark so the brushmarks appear in the finished paint.

The best stuff I have found is glass paint, its really expensive so steal it from your girlfriend's art supplies. If she catches you, deny all knowledge and instead claim that you were trying to make her a gift but are now shy because she has caught you. Go out and buy a gift at the soonest opportunity. Do not touch her art supplies again for a few weeks.

Well, this project is for my girls car, not mine, so I shouldn't hear no complaints.
