Youre in luck , the 5SFE from that model series isnt an interference engine. Belt broke on mine once too and there was no problem at all.

What about on a 2001 Celica? I'm coming close to 100k and I need to know when to change it. Thanks!

Timing belts are meant to be changed every 80.000 Km, the belt may last up to 120.000 Km but it's better to be safe than sorry

80K? WOW! I got 92k out of the timing belt on my evil 88 All Trac. While muttering dark incantations I was informed it 'should be' changed every 30K miles. Apparently the 2.0L turbo is an interference type engine. Got back on the road today. It is running ok but feels slightly off. When I'm sitting at witt's end and pondering life it keeps coming to me that Japan actually did win the 'BIG ONE.' Proof can be seen if the 14 guys in Japan can be found. They are the guys who crack up every time any person over 5' 10" approaches one of their cars carrying tools.

Yeah... I also got 112.000 Km out of my former AE-82 engine before the belt snapped, fortunatly nothing bent but manual did stipulate a new belt every 80.000 Km just like in my 92 Celica

no, the 3sgte is non interference. just look at the design. i got 78k out of mine before severe jerking\bucking at 3k rpm+. a couple days under the hood and car and back to normal. and damn, that starter trick is great for the pulley bolt.

Anyone have the instructions for timing belt replacement?

Hi, I am trying to help a friend replace the timing belt on his '90 Celica... I think SE - 2.2 liter. Anyone have a link to the "how to" for this? I've done this on a couple of my 4G63 Talons but this is a little different. Thanks!

Would someone please actually post a comment more useful then "bring it to a mechanic".
