URGENT!! A/C Question!!! What kind do I have??

I have an 89 Celica GT and I was told that I have the R12 air conditioner. I know that my Dad got some work done on it in the summer of 2003, but I don't know if they replaced the whole unit and if they did I don't know if they replaced it with the R132. Is there anyone that can tell me how I can find out? I found a little nipple that sticks out on the passenger side of the engine near the strut mounts, but it looks different than my 91 Camry. It looks like something sticks in there, rather than around it. It looks bigger than the ones on my Camry. Also, I only see one, but there are two on the camry. Can anyone please help me!!

P.S. I also need to know if the nipple I located on my 89 celica is the correct nipple to add refrigerant to. Thanks guys!!

You wont be able to tell what kind of refrigerant your car has unless you have an refrigerant identifier. If your car was converted from R12 to R134, maybe the shop put a sticker under your hood. The sticker should be blue/light blue. If not, then you probably need to take it to an AC shop.

Would the connectors be different sizes though? I heard the R12s have smaller connectors while the R134 has connectors with wider diameters. Is this true?

r-12 uses smaller screw on fittings. 134 uses a larger quick disconnect type of fitting. Typically when people do those half ass retrofits they just add some oil and screw on the new 134 fittings right over the old r-12 fittings. Anyone who if familiar with it can take a quick look and tell you which fitting it is. All 94 and newer cars have 134a from the factory.
