Question 84 GT-S 22R-E, Again with the rough running.

I tried a few searches, but came up blank, so here goes..

It's an 84/85 Celica GT-S with a 22R-E... My first problem was a weak fuel pump.
That was fixed and the car has run excellent for 4 months.

Now after a long road trip (3 hours each way). The next morning, it started as normal, ideled fine.. But, anything after about 1/8 throtle it bogs, misfires, and runs real rough.

It never shuts off..
At that 1/8 or so throtle, I can "play" with it (in that 1/8 range) and get the revs to 3,500, and it will stay there with a slight miss.. Any more throtle and down to like 1,000 it goes, and roughness.

We tested the pump again, and the pressure is right, from there, No clue where to look..

O2 maybe? I unpluged the O2 and had no change..
T.P.S.?? Mass air ??
I just don't know where to start.

Please help Li'l zoomie again.

Question about the TPS (throtle position sensor)..

Could that be the cause of this behavior?

Or could it be a combination of things?..

Example: I put my hand over the air intake, right in front of the Mass Air Sensor, blocking the air flow. The engine will drop rev's but not die, however, with this "vacuum" effect the engine is allowed to rev, slowly but no missfire.

The exhaust has the smell of running rich also.

Any guesses? I'm shooting in the dark here.

Go through the Haynes manual and follow their trouble shooting guide. It lists in order the things that could be wrong. It's been a while since I had my 84GT. Better still if you have the BGB to follow.

Check the obvios first such as the air cleaner and fuel filter. From there the TPS and AIC, ect ect.

Air cleaner is off, the fuel filter is new, replaced same time as the pump.
Adjusted the TPS, but still has the problem.

How can I test the O2 sensor?
I have two repair books, and both just say to replace it. Know of any tests?

AIC?? that one, I don't know.

I hate cars with computers and sensors.. Our 76 celica is so much easyer.. Fuel and spark is all it needs.

ThankGod!!!!!!!! I found it, I found it!!..
The Mass Air sensor.

I just knew inside it had to do with the air, or throtle.

ThankGod I had another one from another 84 GT that was junked..
Pluged it in and it worked, so I swaped them.

Woo Hoo, Zoomie is back!

You know, we checked that the first time, when the pump went out...
It checked good then, this time we checked the pump first...

Ah, if only cars got simpler with technology.
