Please Help!!! Automatic Transmission's acting weird on my 89 Celica

Alright, I've got a big problem on my hands right now. My transmission, I think, is shot but I just want to make sure and ask you guys.

Just yesterday my Celica would never get past 2,000 RPMs. If I start out at a stop it starts in low gear and when I accelerate, as soon as I hit around 2,000 RPMs, it shifts into 2 and then to 3rd really fast and it just feels like the car is lagging. If I push the pedal all the way down to the floor, the car won't downshift and accelerate. It stays in overdrive and tries to accelerate that way.

I tried to see if i can force it in certain gears with the shifter, and that works. I keep it in L when I first start out and it stays there until I put it into 2nd and it'll stay there until I change it. The O/D even works. If I don't activate it, it stays in 3rd and if I activate, it will shift into overdrive. I just don't get what is going on with my baby!! Please, if you can help, do so because I am in dire need of help!! If I do need a new transmission, does anyone have or know of a place where I can get a rebuilt, used, or even new transmission. I would prefer a rebuilt. I wonder sometimes if it's even worth replacing, but I love my baby and would love to drive it more. Thanks for all your help guys!!

i read someone else having a similar problem, and it had something to do with a $50 part that senses the torque and downshifts... I cannot remember now but it was on 4gcelica.net or toyotacelicaonline.com in the forum, if I can find it, I will send a link...

in the meantime, call a tranny shop, and they will probably know what part I am talking about...

Thanks a ton!! That makes me feel a lot better! So you think all I need is this part that senese the torque and what not? You don't think I need to rebuild my transmission?

Well, it turned out it was just a kickdown cable that he didn't even have to replace. It just came loose and he hooked it back up. Good news for me!! Now I've just got to figure out why my cooling system still gets too hot after I replaced the thermostat, radiator cap, and I got the cooling system flushed. I'm totally baffled on this one.
