Rack and pinion replacement?
I have a 1992 Toyota Celica GT convertible (my baby). I recently had my interval oil change at my local Toyota dealer. When it was done, my name was called and, foolishly, I thought I would be on my way. The service writer told me that "technician Steve" decided that I needed a new clutch, throttle body service, and a new rack and pinion. My car has 105,000 miles, doesn't use oil, has no rust, and steers and shifts wonderfully. I had the clutch and rack looked at. I was told that I had 60%+ of my clutch left and that there were no leaks that this person could find on the rack. My fluid level has not fluctuated nor has the steering become harder. Is the dealer, whom I have trusted for many years, just trying to sell me $2220 worth of stuff that I don't need? How does one really tell if the rack is bad? Thanks for your opinions
