88 Celica GT or GTS
Ok, I know someone should be able to answer this.
How can you tell the difference from an 88 Celica GT and an 88 GTS. ie. it has been debaged, spoiler may be an add on, etc.
is there a code on the engine that says 3SGE somethere on the gts vs the 3SFE on the gt...
What were the differences in the models anyways??
thanks.....

The 3s-fe is a twin cam engine. Very similar to the 3s-ge. Sorry, just had to take exception to that 'cause that's my engine.

Correct. The second cam is driven directly from the first, like most Toyota engines.

How to tell the difference
GT and ST models had 4 bolt rim patterns while the GTS had a 5 bolt pattern....thats the best way to determine it.

the power difference, is the 3S-GE made about 150 bhp whereas the 3S-FE made 115.
Of course the main difference is in the head, as denoted GE & FE. Think of the GE as the performance head designed for higher flow and the FE is optimized for fuel economy and low to midrange power.
I believe the 3S-GE also had the TVIS dual-length intake runner.

Its 135 for the 3SGE and 115 for the 3SFE, and it did have TVIS for that run.

the dual vvt-i is Altezza only (200 to 210, depending on transmission).
The Caldina, MR2, & Celicas had the non-VVT-i 3S-GE, in Japan of course.

thats right, but the 3SGE in the 4th gen Celi only put down 135HP, which really isn't that bad seeing as how the 5SFE puts out the same numbers but has 0.2 more L of displacement.
btw, welcome to the board, good to have some people that are knowledgable here.

fifth & 6th put out about 150 bhp.
the 5S, due to its slightly larger displacement its F head made a broader powerband
