Question ...what should i worry about...

i have a 5th generation gts celica w/ a 5sfe motor in it... and i am going to replace it with a newer generation 5sfe motor... was wondering if there's anyone out there who's done a swap like this and could give me some pointers on what i need to get before i start and what i should watch out for... any word of advice would be great... and ohh... i am hoping to find the 6th generation 5sfe motors and replace it into my 5th generation celica...

ps... the 3sgte swap is too expensive for me...

Unless your 5sfe is toast don't waste your money on a newer generation 5sfe. Your only going to get gains of maybe 10hp. The swap is simple just use all electrical components off your current motor to avoid wiring issues.
If you want a bit more power cheaper than doing a 3sgte swap look at a 3sge or if your patient you can piece together a turbo kit for you 5sfe relatively cheap.

10HP? Don't think so. Official different is 5HP and most of it is in ECU. Which 5th gen you got? 90-91 or 92-93? 92-93 already got the newer 135HP engine and electrical.

i have a 1990 gts... i believe it is the 90-91 5sfe 2.2 motor... that's what it says on the record... my mech. told me the newer generation motors are too big... so i am assuming i'll have to stick with the same year motor model... (i had to replace my clutch earlier the year and i found out my celica was made the early 89's -90's... i dunno if that helps...)

the original motor has over 200k on it... and besides, the gaskets and whatever is in the bolck is wrecked... i had coolant water and gasoline running down my exhaust when i had the car running... it's been over 6 months since i had it running... so i figured since a 3sgte swap is just out of thr league, ill swap the same motor, but w/ lesser milage and work it from there...

i am at the time looking for a 5sfe motor... the same year and make like my car... if any knows of anyone who's been looking to sell their 5sfe, i'd be willing to make a deal... thanks for reading...

Are you going to do the swap yourself? If you are not then you want to make sure that you get either a 1990 or a 1991. The 92+ have slightly different wiring and would end up costing you more money to have the mechanic figure it out.

If your going to do it yourself buy any s (3sfe, 3sge, 5sfe) series motor and you can make it work easily. You simply have to swap all the electrical components from one motor to the next. Everything bolts up nicely and is quite simple to do. Pinny can name everything you need to swap over. When I did it I just did a short block swap to make it simple

my mechanic has the connection to hook me up with an early 5sfe motor (90-91)... i was thinking about a 3sge, but i don't exactly know how much more work i will be expecting to put up with... besides, i figured the wiring and all will be a lot more work...

i am trying to gather information on how much more work it is to replace my car with a 3sge motor... i'd like to make it as easily as possible... which probably will never work out, but find something that is most compatible...

if anyone out there have anything for sale that you think i could use, pleas inform me... i am up for any suggestions... thanks all...
