Can I put a 20r chain on a 22r?

What does it take to put a 20r chain on a 22r? I have a complete 20r and a 22r. I would use the 20r, but it is beyond repair.

I believe the 22r has a taller block than a 20r. Did you swap heads or anything?

No, the 22r is complete, and I am getting ready to put it into my 80 GT. I want to replace the timing chain, and I figure I would upgrade at this time.

It all depends on what year the 22R you have is. In 83 I beleive Toyota went to a single chain. In 85 Toyota made the 22R a different deck heighth. the 81 and 82 22R's had a double row chain just like the 20R's. Basically if you have a double row chain on your 22R then it will fit on your 20R. Just make sure you have the double row gears and cover.

NO and I don't know why you would want to take the chain apart anyways.

My 22r has a single chain, and I would like to put the dual on, but dont want to pull it all apart for it not to work.

If you get a double row cover, chain, cam gear, and crank gear it will work. People have done it many of times.

Cool, my 20r has the cover, and I will buy a new chain and gears to be safe.
