Easiest way to 200whp turbo charged.

Looking into a 1994 ST/GT Celica ( probably ST ).

Which is the cheaper/easier way to go to 200whp? Turbo charging stock 7afe or swapping? I Haven't looked into swaps yet and I can't seem to find someone who's priced both.

if you want 200 whp turbod, get a gt. you could spend the money turboing a 5sfe, and make it have over 200 with good tuning. or you could do a 3sgte swap on it. either way, youd make over 200 whp. but i dare say, youd be hard pressed convincing a 7afe over 200 without some serious dime.

Noted. Thanks.

I've actually read that 9.5 psi (over at 6gcelica forum) put down 170whp/180tq. And it can handle 12 psi stock.

So why would 200whp be so far fetched? Or is everyone afraid of boosting 7a's? 6gCelica people are doing it. =D

Cuz they blow up.

By far, your best bet is to swap ina 3S-GTE.
That'll give you 180-190whp with just IntEx.
Then turn up the boost like 5 psi and you're putting down well over 200.
Maybe cams too for another 20-30hp.
Then F&I and some more psi and you'll be flying.

Kay thanks.

But the whole point is to have ONLY 200whp. Don't need more than that. Which means I won't be spending 5k just to swap a 3s-gte.

If anything, I'll get a 94 gt and boost it. But there's no point, in my case, in swapping if I only want 200whp.

You can push it to the edge and have 200 whp
or
you can have 200 whp + reliability and also leave room for the future.
It's up to you.
my 2 psi.

You should get a GT/GTS.
ST have smaller front brake and rear drum.
GT/GTS is 4 disc and have sway bars.
Turboing the 5S to 200WHP will not cost much less then a 3S swap.

Why ask a question then argue with the correct answer? Can you boost a 7a to 200hp, sure! Will it last the rest of the year, doubt it! Can you swap in a 3SGTE, sure! Will it last with proper maintenance for a few years, of course!

You decide. Tell you what though, I'm not putting a 3SGTE in a tercel just to say it's in there. I want POWER! And a lot more than you can safely get from any e or a series.
Period.

The question was: Cheapest/easiest way. Not Most expensive reliable. I wasn't given the correct answer.

Thanks for your "2" cents anyway.

The cheapest and easiest way is going to be a LOT more expensive down the road, so you have gotten the correct answer. Don't get smart.

ESPECIALLY if you have a Celica, the 3SGTE IS the route to take.

Cheapest, easiest is 100 shot nitrous. Engine "Gone in 60 second".
Just turbo the 7A and watch it die or turbo with nitrous. Engine will die "Fast and Furious".

what about the 4agze motor guys? its already supercharged... bolts right into the ST (which is lighter than the gt or gts) that swap wouldnt be very expensive if you do it yourself. and hey if you dont like the super charger take it off... put a turbo on it... or twin charge it. if i ever do anything (motor wise) to my 91 ST it will be the gze swap!!! that answers "eaiser" and "cheapest" (assuming that you want to be able to drive the car for over a year and have that kind of HP!!!!! what does every one think?
