Hi. I'm looking at buying a st204 celica in town, and the guy says that it had a 2.0L engine put in to replace the 2.2 that it came with. the thing is though, that it has the 2200 intake manifold, so I'm kinda skeptical about the engine. Where is the cast code located on the S series engines? will the first 2 letters be the engine? someone on another board posted up a picture of the 6mge castcode, and 6M were the first 2 digits, so i would hope that toyota kept up with the coding.
also, could you use a 2.2 intake on a 2.0? or even a 2.2 head on a 2.0 block? the cam cover looks to be just the 5s cover too, though ive never really seen many pics of any 2.0 engines, other than the beams. if it does turn out that it really is a 2L engine, how could i tell if its an FE or a GE?
Both the F and G series are DOHC, but the F series has a single cam gear, while the G series has 2.
This is reflected in the upper timing belt cover, which is larger on the G series.
Also, the F series tends to have a taller valve cover.
If it says 2200 on the intake manifold, it's probably a 2.2 [5SFE]
However, the 2.0 and 2.2 are the same engine family, so alot of the parts, to include manifolds, are pysically interchangeable [ie bolt on].
Its a JDM 3S-FE 2.0L swap. They keep the 5S intake manifold and other electronics so everything just bolt-on. All S series share exhaust manifold. FE heads share intake manifold also. GE got its own intake and head.
here are some pictures i took of various things, 2 of them being pictures in the engine bay.
can you guys tell what engine is in the car now? sticker says its a 3s, but how bout it being ge, or fe. also, the ecu that is pictured was found in the glove compartment. ill take more pictures if needed.
Aside from the obvious GTE, at least some of the GE manifolds are different from the FE ones.
Cam sensor is in the dist, unless it has distless ignition.
It's definitly a FE head, but that's a 3SGTE ecu.....
It wasn't attached to the wiring?
Must be extra. I'll try to run the p# tomorrow and see what year it is.
Timing belt cover doesn't mean much.
Why can't I see a engine mount in the 3rd pic down? Is it missing?
And is that the pwr steering res? Pretty damn small if it is.
Can you get some better pics of the engine bay and wiring?
I'm curious about that SAFC.
That's the RC ECU.
This thing is like the Frankenstein's monster.
FE head, on a 3s or 5s block? running RC ECU and SAFC.
Does it have Turbo?
Do you have the number of the MAF sensor?
ill get some more pictures around saturday. im in edmonton right now, and the car is in.... well not edmonton. its a 3S block(i found the castcode on it), and i guess an FE head. the ecu that i snapped a pic of was an extra ecu that came with the car, so its not the ecu that the car is currently running. i was gonna check what ecu its running right now, but i left in the morning and i was super grumpy and didn't want to bother with pictures.
heres a full picture of the engine bay that i took afew days ago. circle what you want me to take closer pictures of, and ill do that when i get home.
