Air conditioning smell 95 Celica

We recently bought what appears to be a pristine condition 1995 Celica 5-speed. I mean, this thing even has the original tires (29,000 miles).

There is a horrible, cat-pee like smell emanating from the ventilation ductwork. How difficult is it to access the innards of the AC evaporator coil enclosure/box? I see no visible screws on any of the kick panels of consol trim. How to remove these? I was thinking of just dribbling some bleach-water down the main vent grille on the top of the console and say a prayer it would kill off any mildew or other possible odor-causing agent inside the ac/ventilation box.

Can someone help me here?

Thanks,

Gil Kirk

This really isn't the right forum for this, but since I can't move it.....
I'm not sure how similar the 6th gen Celicas are to the 5Th gen, but it should be behind the glove box. It shouldn't be that hard to pull out, but you're going to want to get it evacuated first. I wouldn't hurt to replace the dryer while your at it. It should be up front, somewhere by the bumper.
Also, looking at the year/mileage, the car probably sat for a while, so it might have some kind of animal nest inside the evaporator, or even in the heater core surround, which is alot harder to pull out.

Yeah, try cleaning it out first, then before you park the car, make sure the circulation lever/knob is in "Fresh Air" mode (the icon that has a car outline with an arrow) instead of the Recirculate (car outline with a C), or the Recirculate is off on electronic switches/climate controls (I don't know what it uses).
