I've heard the same thing...the speed limiter is set to what the cars tires were rated at from the factory. I have a 90 GT with a 5SFE (yes it is a U.S. car) and it hits the limiter at 115 MPH. Was wondering if cutting a wire would work..seems frome what has been said, it will..now just have to dig the prints and see which one it might be!

One way to find out if you have one is to see how fast your car will go. In my 1990 at 115MPH it chops the ignition with a couple grand of RPM left to redline. If you go as fast as you feel comfortable with or to redline without your ignition cutting out, I wouldn't worry about or cut anything.

I think 197kph (121mph) it just where the 92's run out of juice.

Cause my 92 GT-S runs up to 121/122 before it stops accelerating. And it's not an abrupt cutoff. It's just drag limited I think, a couple hundred before redline. So I don't think there is a speed limiter, and if there is disabling it wouldn't do much.

At least, my ticket says 121+

Yeah, on an empty, straight divided highway at 11pm. I've got court next Wednesday. It sucks.

might be true for 1990-1991, but on 1992-1993 GT's they got V-rated tires which allow for 149 mph. the GT-S models and ST185s always got V's. even an H-rated tire allows for 130 mph, meaning that unless the 1990-1991s got S or T tires straight out of the factory, that the tires would NOT be a factor if the car was limited to 115 mph. interestingly, the GT speedo goes to 120 mph... hmm
