Better Gas Mileage on 1997 Celica ST?

Hi. I'm newbie in cars & this forum. My parents recently bought a 1997 Totoyta Celica ST for me. I'm not trying to make the thing go faster or anything because I don't have the $, but is there any ways I can modify it to get better gas mileage? Thanks a lot!

the st already gets some of the best gas mileage in a car that old. your basic performance mods will also give you better gas mileage. ie intake headers exaust. you could buy one of those tornado things i dont think they work though.

hey whats happenin.. i have a 2000 celica gt and get aleast 35mpg every gas tank (not bad for a sports coupe).. the best things u can do is to make sure u change ur oil every 3000 miles, have a clean air filter, and tires are inflated properly. You could probably get a drop in K@N filter that should get u a mile or 2 better.. thats the cheapest route to get better gas mileage.. my celica gt is stock probably wont do much to it.. dont want to hurt my gas mileage.. probably get a exhaust later on, dont want anything loud though

Just keep in mind that although i/h/e might give you a slight improvement in gas mileage, it will take a *VERY LONG* time to offset the cost of these items in terms of gas savings if you ever break even. As far as clean air filters, basic maintenance, tire pressure, those are very easy to do to improve gas consumption and is something that needs to be done anyway.

all of these are 100% correct but one of the biggest factor for fuel consumption is driving style.
ie. easing off the gas and coasting to a red light will save gas, and wear and tear and could get you a real big bonus if the light turns green before you come to a stop. This is pretty much common knowledge but i throught i'd share anyways.
