86 gt-s idol problems!!!!

I have a 86 gt-s and it has idol problems. It's really hard to start in the morrining, when i finally get it to run. i have to kind of keep giving it gas untill it warms up some. then it will idol. the next problem is that the idol changes. sometimes it will be 1000 and then you drive for a little while and when you push in the clutch, it will be 1800. Or it will bounce from 1000 to 1800 for about 10 sec. and then idol at 1800. It's kind of all over the place and i don't know where to start. I've clean'd the throttle body, inspected all the vacumm lines, i've even check'd the cruise unit to make sure it wasn't binding up the throttle cables! Can anyone help me with this??????????

I had a very similar problem on my 1987 Mitsubishi Magna, it was the damn a/c compressor.
Made it a pig to start (as it was seizing) & would clutch & declutch sometimes & make the engile idle way too fast. Some sort of solenoid inside of the compressor crapped out.

Try adjusting the "idle" screw first, here's something I'll never get tired of posting over and over and over again (SEARCH would have showed you the same) on how to get rid of the up and down idle.

With the car on, find the idle screw; with a phelps screw driver turn the screw counter clockwise until you reach a steady idle speed (1800-2000rpm or so) let it run for a few seconds (10 the most) and then turn it clockwise slowly to turn the idle speed down until you reach 800-1000rpm which is the normal idle speed for 4cyl motors.

i'am not that stupid, i did try to adjust the idol screw. i think it's the idle air valve, that really makes since to me. I don't believe it's the a/c. I never use it and it doesn't make any noise. Thanks for the help. I'll let ya know
