you take a paper clip and bend it so you can stick it in the E1 and TE1 holes of the diagnostic unit in the engine compartment. Mine is in the corner nearest the driver.
Make sure all your accessorys are off and turn the key on but do not start it. Count the flashes of the engine light and report back.
mine flashes 7 pause then 1 and repeats this till I remove the paper clip and turn off the key.

and also how many mpg's should i be getting with my 93 celica, all it has is a custom short ram intake and a muffler, because right now a full tank will get me right around 300 miles, what can cause it to use up so much gas,
What error code does it throw? Check that first.
There are many factors for poor gas mileage.
The way you drive, traffic condition, bad O2 sensor (which can throw CEL), clog air filter, etc..
You should take care of the CEL first.
i havent had a chance to get the codes, umm it is probably my o2 sensor because i have a new filter and regular driving my rpms are kept low and i dont really drive like a craze man, least not regular street driving
My 94 ST is doing the same thing and was diagnosed as an EGR problem, it has 200k miles and gets 31-34mpg, all highway. any guesses which EGR component it could be?
and i get over 25mpg average , around 30 if im using the freeway a lot. the record was 38mpg on a very very long trip down the country (car had just been tuned up, and i was driving continiously at about 120 km/h without slowing down etc except for refuelling or rest every couple of hours)
Car is a 1990 SX with 5sfe and 253,000km on the clock. and i always use BP Ultimate 98 Octane fuel, its expensive but i get better mileage so i reckon it kind of evens out
Different driving conditions really seem to affect this cars mileage more than my other car.
never trust the fuel gauge when your calculating your mileage - everyones car is a bit different and its very unreliable.
the thing that we can be sure about is when the tank is full. So therefore the only way to calculate your mileage is to fill the tank up full, reset your trip meter to zero and then next time you fill up the car just divide the trip meter reading by the amount of petrol you just put in which will give you your mpg, or km per litre.
