need new shift cables?

my 94 GTS doesn't go into the bottom gears, I'm fine with 1,3,5 but no go into 2,4 and reverse. Do I need new shifter cables? How much do shift cables cost? or do I have another problem?

I would physically look at the cables. If it does not go into those gears, I'm sure a pin is loose. I wouldn't suspect a "broken" shifter cable.

Also, there are two points where the shifter cables meet the tranny. There located on the firewall side of the tranny. Try shifing those manually, see if the car goes into 2 and 4. Good luck

do what Snafu said, before buying new cables. if it is the cables then just go to your local junkyard and pull them out of another celica. i think 86-93 had similler cables, but try to get the same model you have. if your cables are fine, well then you have a tranny problem. but first check your cables and then get back to us

I took the car into a tranny shop this morning, and the guy said I need new cables. They only come in pairs and the dealer won't get any in stock for another 3 weeks. The cost is $500 CDN.. I can't be without my reverse, 2nd and 4th gears for 3 weeks. Anyone know where I can get this part faster? The dealer part # is 338202B321

thanks

Of course a shop is going to tell you you need new shifter cables! Did you do all of those things I posted above? I think YOU should take a look at them.... that's right, it's best for you to check them because you're not trying to screw yourself out of 500 dollars CDN. Look at it and make that's the problem.

If it is the shifter cables, call up the junkyards around town. After that, go to local parts shops, and if all else fails.... wait 3 weeks.
