It is a stick. I took the boot cover off and looked around, but don't think I saw a switch. Do you know what I should look for?

you are looking for some kind of switch that is triggered when you shift into reverse. check the transmission, look at the linkage. something electrical trips that switch to cause the back up lights to come on. If you dont have a manual i would suggest getting one. if you dont use it this time you will use it some other time. if you find something that looks like a switch get out your multimeter. switch it to continuity. if there is continuity your switch is shorted. you can also test this by pulling the plug on the switch. the lights should go off it is the correct switch. Im not sure about this transmisson but some have thermocouplers (thermometers) to help diagnose mechanical problems. dont get confused they may look alike. they may not. also... is your check engine light on?
