I'm not saying that they can't buckle themselves in, I'm saying it can be a PITA to always have to move your seat forward to let your kid in and out when they're old enough to do it themselves when a rear door.
A tC isn't really designed for leg room in the rear especially when that child starts to grow more. It's not that you have to buckle your child in, it's that you have to let them in and then give up your own leg room to compensate for your child's lack of it.
