TOYOTA DOES NOT USE BREAK IN OIL AND CHANGING IT WILL NOT CAUSE DAMAGE!
Toyota does use synthetic blend! That's one reason the oil change interval is 5,000 miles! Read the owner's manual before you pass bad information on to other people. Regular oil does not meet Toyota's oil specifications.
As far as the fuel mileage goes...
You are in New Jersey and it's cold. That takes away fuel mileage.
Your car is new, it takes several thousand miles to break in. Actual miles depends on the car, weather, driving conditions, driver, etc, ect, ect...
Relax, you will probably have it broken in my summer and notice your fuel mileage will be much better.
I'm currently in Minnesota and my Camry uses more fuel than when I'm in the Carolinas.
You picked a great car and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
EDIT: Never fill your car to the "rim" as suggested above. Let it click off and call that done. Round it up if you have OCD or something. Filling it to the top will only cause problems with you evaporative system (fuel vapor recovery system). You could cause an excessive amount of fuel to enter from the top of the filler neck and ruin a very expensive charcoal canister. Seriously, many people don't know that but it's true.
