Plenty of people have made the 22R into a good, stump pulling drag motor.
A good free flow exhaust system will work wonders.
The cold air intake will also help.
Buy a mild cam from the usual cam suppliers.

Since your '83 has a tall deck 22R, you can put a 20R head on it to raise the compression ratio. With a retune, this will give more HP.

Later on you might want to put an aftermarket computer on it with computer controlled separate coil packs instead of the distributor.
