Newer engines are designed and built better then ever before (in some cases).

You should be fine to make your trip. The only reason I would consider changing your oil is to make sure you get out any small particles that might be left over from the machining process of your engine. This really shouldn't be a problem so I'd just say go ahead and take your trip and do your maint. when you return.

If you'd like to go ahead but not doing it wont hurt you either.

regular oil. The only cars I know of that come with Syn are the euro cars and the new ZO6 vettes.
