Anyway... on to your question. Anything is possible, but you're asking for trouble. The SmartKey is very complex and is actually very secure... To have some guy or girl from a Best Buy or Circuit City try to install an aftermarket alarm system that would work with it would be asking for trouble. My guess is that you could have both systems... but you'd have to get the Viper alarm fob out of your pocket, disarm the alarm... and then open the door with the smart key. (Which kind of defeats the purpose of the Smart Key system- because the whole point is that you don't have to get your keys out of your pocket)

Messing with complex technology is really risky. If you do decide to get it installed... I would make sure that you have something in writing from the installer that guarantees the work... and has a clause in it that says if they screw it up, they have to provide you with a rental car until it's fixed, because it might be a while.

The "expert installers" at the above mentioned places don't always do things correctly. Keep in mind that their job is do complete the job as quickly and cheaply as possible. When I had an alarm installed on my 98 Camry, I had to take it back once or twice per year because of the cruddy workmanship and wiring issues. (And that was on a car without a factory keyless entry system or theft deterrant system...)

I would really think carefully before doing anything that would change or alter the factory Smart Key System...
Ever install an aftermarket alarm system into an Infiniti FX45 with the technology package which has the smart start similar to the Smart Key system? I didn't think so. Your warning is nice and all but its all gibberish to me since "anything" can be complex. Why add subs when the audio system is "complex" or even HIDs when the headlight system is "complex" or even an intake when the engine is "complex" doesn't seem like you know what your talking about. Bestbuy, CC, rental car lol sure.

To the OT, yes it can be done. You'd just have to bypass the current alarm system and if you get an alarm system with remote start you would need to hide a key fob inside the car so it detects it. Adding an alarm is good since most of whats avaliable (DEI mostly) have the feature to upgrade and add options like motion sensors, tilt alert, remote start, sirens etc and much better then stock. Thats not to say the stock sucks but I've seen better.
