The new Tundra, except for payload, already is up there with gasoline engined so-called 3/4 ton trucks of a decade ago, or as recently as 2003, in the case of the non-SuperDuty F-250.
"Tonnage" is a useless term. Does a Tacoma, with certain equipment, not carry 1500lbs? Isnt that 3/4 ton? 8500lb GVW is the cutoff between light duty and heavy duty emissions, and that is what I think you really mean.
The first one to sell a light-duty emissions turbodiesel in California wins my business, regardless of brand.
