Oil light??

So, I've been enjoying my 5 speed, 4x4 van wagon until now....

Ive been experiencing an intermittent oil warning light, usually after steep grades and activity that gets the motor warmer than normal (never overheated). You can kill the ignition, restart, and the light clears for an undetermined amount of time, sometimes will illuminate again, sometimes doesn't. No, I haven't had a guage on it yet, but i'd sure figure if the dummy (zero psi) light comes on while it's running at speed, this motor would be toast, and it still runs fine ATM. Bad sending unit maybe?

Also, if someone could tell me how to bypass the level sensor to rule that out from being faulty as well, I'd appreciate it.

Have you check your oil level after the light comes on? If there's oil on the old 4YE engine, I say that you will need a new sending unit. Just curious, what type of motor oil are you using?

I think I had that headache too. If I remember right it was fixed by removing the sensor at oil change time and just cleaning it off.
