I wouldn't bother with porting and polishign the head unless you are also upgrading the cams and exhaust.
More value for money doing the cams and/or exhaust first.

I'd also keep the heater core.
No real advantage in removing it and it sure is nice on cold winter mornings.

Rust is our biggest problem because panels are getting so hard to find.
Likewise for trim.
