Mine doesn't do that. Instead it usually just tries to shift from 3rd to 4th at the normal warmed up RPM, and I get the flare.

In the minority of times that my 2007 Camry V6 tranny doesn't slip (flare), it will hold in 3rd gear longer and to a highwr RPM before it shifts into 4th.
It reminded me of how my 2002 Camry V6 was, and I wondered if that's what it's supposed to be doing instead of slipping.
It got me to wondering...

One thing that initially came to mind months ago, was whether the logic thinks my tranny is up to temperature before it actually is, and lets the shift go ahead at the lower RPM like when it's warm? Because it either flares, or waits til a higher RPM, delays the shift and doesn't flare.
(This transaxle does have a fluid temperature sensor)
To me this seems like good debugging information for Toyota. You should be commended on your insight.
