Uh, lemme think...

...YEAH! What? Are you kidding? Jump all over that if you're getting it for below invoice! I know I'd never sell one that cheap unless it'd been sitting on my lot forever and a day!

Don't let your excitement and greed get the better of you. Check the car out THOROUGHLY before signing anything. There could be a reason why they're giving you such a good deal. Keep us updated.

...that is true that maybe there IS something wrong with this particular vehicle. However there is a simple fix. Just ask your dealer/salesperson/manager to run a CarFax for you on this particular vehicle. Even if the vehicle has never been sold, and claims on the vehicle (identified by the VIN#) would show up on a CarFax.

Ask them how long they've had this vehicle on the lot, also. They could just want to quit paying interest on something they've found difficult to sell.

How big of a dealership are they? Do they sell other lines, too?

500 under invoice makes sense if they just got the car in. As I understand it, automakers frequently give a sort of kickback to the dealership for purchasing cars, kind of as incentive for them to finance more autos to sell.

If the just got the car in, they probably have yet to make any payments on it... it's in their best interests to get it off their hands as quickly as possible, cause then they can just pocket the money Toyota has given them. This is especially true if this particular dealership has discovered that they can't sell the Matrix, but for whatever reason they're stuck with the ones they've gotten in (can't trade with other dealerships, ordered them before they realized it wasn't a hot seller, etc).

For my money, I'm willing to pay invoice, maybe slightly above on a new car, but I won't go over. The MSRP and sticker prices just seem way exhorbitant to me. 'Course, that may just be my frugal dustbowl roots talkin'
