alternate solution
Hi, From experience you should go with what I think is the best. Thule make an excelent roof rack. but in order to protect the paint on the roof top and sides where the rack clamps on to, I suggest you have a tinted window installer put a plastic film over these areas. the same type of material that he uses for the tinted windows. (He can also install a film in front of the hood instead of having this ugly wind deflector in front.) beleive me it protect your paint and your rack remains strong. You see I have this setup on my 2003 xrs which i have modified because I carry 2 canoes that are 18.5 feet in lenght. So I have gone to a metal shop to get 2 six footer, 1 inch square tubing. I ran them on top of the rack and got an extra 2 rack bars ($30.00 on ebay) which I set at 2 inches of the extrimities. This resulted in have a better stand to not breack my carbon fiber canoes ($5 grand a pop). I clamps them down with U clamp and crossed the flat part of the U clamp. I have had excelent results with this set up as if I am called to go at a race, I could get there fast (sometimes up to 140-155 kph) with both canoes remaining intack and solid.
Good luck
