Ya! I really like the matrix! I think it is the best looking wagon or SUV or whatever Toyota is calling it. I did like the Mazda P5 but I like the Matrix 10 times more!

Well, Matrix doesn't look like a wagon at all. Protege5 is just a wagon but Matrix is taller compare to that.

I'm guessing the price might be expensive though, I think the rep from importfest told me it's $24K for the BASE model.

Yah, i think its gonna be expensive for its size and class (whatever it fits into)...

I like the idea of practicality, sporty-hatch, not small like a civic hatch, not as big as a Forester, just right...

mostly Im looking forward to that 180-hp Celica engine...

we'll see if the bulkiness takes away from the ride.

The design of the car is fabulous thats no doubt but as far as the perfomance goes...
Correct me if I'm wrong but the 2zz-ge will only come as an awd option right? AWD=weight.2zz-ge=n/a 1.8l. 1.8l n/a=no torque. no torque ina heavy car= no speed.
Plus the power band of the 2zz is so not suited for an a awd. I think they should bring back the 3s-gte and throw it in there cause thats the only way that car will have power and be able to handle.

It'll be available to the market sometime in Feb 2002. Toyota is manufacturing it right now in Cambridge.

I think only the 1ZZ-FE (sp?) have the AWD option.

yeah Guys, that is a very nice car!! I like that very much too. Does the Matrix going to sell in Toronto dealer?
I also like the new Nissan Sentra SE-R also, I went to the Nissan showroom to ask for the price of SE-R, the agent told me that, only $26k to $29k on the road, just depend on what option u want! It comes with the 6 speed manual!

There is a new version of the 3S-GTE out in Japan... 255HP stock with ST185 intercooler... the latest and greatest.

Base engine is 1.8L 130 hp
AWD option only for base engine, and has like 120 hp

available 180 hp VVTL-i engine with 6 spd

i assume the XRS (top model) comes with that big muffler...i wonder how much of that 50hp increase does it contribute?

im guessing theres no need for a new TRD muffler if you get the top model?

The 130 HP 1ZZ-FE is not to be confused with the 180HP 2ZZ-GE. Both are in the ZZ family of engines but the 2ZZ-GE co-engineered with Yamaha with an advanced variable valve timing and variable valve LIFT controls. Var. lift control is achieved by an extra cam lobe that is brought into play by the engine electronics via a hydraulic actuator. The G heads of Toyotas are used in higher performance applications (i.e. 2JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GE, 3S-GTE, 3S-GE, 4A-GE, 4A-GZE).

To answer your question about that "big muffler", it only contributes to about zero to none hp of the 2ZZ's engine's output.

Matrix looks good...just that...all the other manufactures BEAT Toyota to put something stylish onto the street!
Mazda put out the P5 and the MP3- Nissan's got some killer stuff with that 3.5L. But, if you ask me, I wouldn't mind a Matrix at all! What about the NCSV? It looks somewhat like the Seat "Salsa" for some reason.
