How do I disable the Auto Door Lock feature?

I have a 2005 Matrix XR (auto tranny) and live in Toronto, Canada.

The auto door locking feature is driving me nuts! Each time I put the car in drive the doors lock which is no big deal. However, when I stop, shift into park and get out to either fetch something out of the back seat or hatch, the doors remain locked.

If I've gotten out with the key fob in hand I have to press the unlock button "twice" to open the rest of the doors. If it's still in the ignition, I have to open up the drivers door and press the unlock switch.

This bugs the crap out of me! One shouldn't have to manually open the doors eack time they stop and get out of the car!

My dealer said there's nothing they can do! Can anyone help? I read a reply for a similar problem, but a different model and year. It went like this:

"Put key in ignition, turn to on position. Open driver's door and remove key (keep door open). Put key in and out 4 times (in/ out only without any turning of key) with the key out at the end. Hit drivers side unlock button 5 times. Wait at least ten seconds and shut the driver's door. Away you go."

It didn't work on my car.

From what i've seen there is no way to turn off the ADL feature but it can be setup to unlock the doors when the car is put into park.
First disconnect the battery to set the system into Mode 1
After reconnecting the battery, set the interior light control dial to the door position
Move the shifter into Park and shut all the doors
Turn the ignition to the ON position
Within 5 seconds press and hold the lock switch for 5 seconds
The interior light should flash
Repeat this procedure, other then the battery part until the light flashes 3 times
This should put the ADL into Mode 3
Hope this helps

You my friend are a god!!! Your solution works like a charm. Now why couldn't the service manager tell me that? I going to print out your fix or better still, show him the page in the manual with the proceedure when I take the car in for an oil change and ask them why they didn't know about this!

Thanks again!

The procedure is also in your owners manual. There are a variety of combinations (modes) you can choose from depending on what you want to happen.

I posted my question here first because the service manager said there was nothing you can do to, that's the way the car is designed! After I changed the mode I did wonder if it was in the owner's manual.

He should have known there's various modes and that it was in the manual.

I changed my mode (2005 4wd - XR) to the same thing you are wanting. I followed the directions exactly as stated in the manual and it does work. Be sure to carefully follow the sequence of actions they want you to do.

Also, there was no need to disconnect the battery.

Good luck!

Disconnecting the battery clears all the modes and starts you in mode 1.

Now it's exactly the way I want it... Thanks! I believe it's on page 23 of the owner's manual!

Does all 2003 models have the ADL feature? Mine does nothing; I have manual lock it and unlock it.
