Never bought a new car before....what's all this stuff about dealer invoice price? I'm trying to figure out how much below MSRP should I be aiming for.
there was a good artical in CANADIANDRIVER.COM about how to get the best deal possible. It gets into how you initially approach the dealer and how you present the possible ways for them to make money on you for the extras like warranty, rustproofing etc, and makes them willing to lower the price on the vehicle. Then at the end, you don't buy any of the things you made them believe you were going to buy. it is a good read for anyone interested in buying a new car, here is the link, good luck and tell us how it went.
Unfortunately in Canada, getting the dealer invoice price isn't free and as easily accessible as it is in the US. I haven't seen anyone get anymore than about $1000 off MSRP. If I can recall, I got mine $800 below MSRP (in 2002 for a 2003 XRS).

Thanks for the info. Checked out your info and carcostcanada - got the XR with package "B" for $1500 off MSRP and had fun wheelin' and dealin'. End of the year was a good time to go car shopping. Thanks again,

man how did u not manage to get mroe than 1000 bucks off mista matrix. You can beat around buying it for a week and go in on the last night of the month or second last (when they want to boost they're sales) and haggle hard. I got a 2002 celica gt-s in september of 2002, just before the 2003 models came out for 28700 instead of 33 ish. Sure the car was almost a year old but it was still brand new.
no I was asking why you couldnt get moe than 1000. Usually its pretty ez to get that much. Did u go to don valley north lexus toyota? Those guys are jerk offs
Ah. Got ya. They wouldn't budge. The dealer had a lengthy waiting list at the time. I actually waited 3mths for mine. I suppose you could say they used the 'get it now before you have to wait any longer approach."
Haven't checked in for a while (I thought I'd get emails alerting me to new posts, but must have the wrong settings).
I got delivery the next day as I negotiated based on what they had on the lot. Scarborough Lexus Toyota - would recommend Stephen da Silva as a good guy who knows how to close the deal.
I spent 1 1/2 hours at Don Valley Lexus Toyota and that was a waste of time. I went in knowing what I wanted to pay (based on the carcostcanada info) and went through a useless process (yeah, I can get you that; oh no, I quoted you the wrong number; let me check with my manager; bla bla bla).
Took me less than 30 minutes at Scarborough to seal the deal.
I thought going to Don Valley, as a high volume dealership, would be good - but, they have too many customers who're happy getting $500 off to want to deal with someone who wants a good price.
