Fuel Economy - improve it

I read in a post you can add a free flowing muffler and an air filter-ma-jig. I'd love to boost my mileage but a) i dont want the car to make more noise than it does. I'm not really into loud ass cars, i like it how it is - do they make them? Can this be a certified installation?

thanks

Sorry. There is no free flowing muffler/air filter that will come close to stock noise out there.

My suggestion to boost mileage....drive leisurely.
If you don't mind a harsher ride, add a couple lbs. of air in the tires for less rolling resistance.
Alignment should be in specs.
Maintain your scheduled maintenace.
Don't add unneccecary weight to the vehicle.
Don't let your engine idle for a long period.

Ok for those of us new owners who don't mind a little extra noise what minor mods canI make that will increase my gas mileage? I thought about a CAI. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

it all depends on how you drive...

if you get a cai and a catback....you might, MIGHT, gain a mpg or two...IF you drive like an old chinese lady

but if youve got a lead foot you'll use more gas because you;ll have a freer flowing system

Get an AFC.
Trim down the fuel just a bit.

You'll need a wide band O2 to tune this. Dyno or road tune.
Must be a reputable tuner who knows what he's doing to tune this.

No extra noise. Plus more power.
Although you might need to change to premium gas to avoid detonation.

Hmmm I guess I'll need to do some reading. I don't know what an AFC is. And I'm with xrs22. Lead foot for the win! It's really hard to drive my car any other way. It just wants to run fast. I still get good mileage. I get 30mph just running around and 36-37 out on the highway. But these days any way I can save money on gas is worth looking into.
