2005 vs 2006

I want to add a K & N Drop in Filter into my 06 XRS but can not find part numbers as of yet from K & N. I thought I saw somewhere that the 05 is the same. Anyone know this for sure or is it just wishfull thinking????? Contacted K & N and they said part numbers will not be available for a couple months.

I used the same K&N as the 05 in my 06. Part number 33-2252. Works just fine for me.

Jaloos - have you actually noticed any performance gains (power, fuel economy, etc) since you installed the new filter? Any insight will be appreciated.

Can't really answer that for you as I have had it in from the time I bought the car(only 2 months old) and don't know. I would like to think so though LOL.

I had the K&N dropin in my 05 corolla xrs, and I liked it. It made a sweet whistle sound at high rpms, I got 2 more MPG consitently, and the engine climbed rpms faster. I doubt you gain HP but the engine will definately breathe better.

If you really wanna get good feul economy, get a free flowing muffler. The stock XRS can has about 20 lbs of baffles inside which really hurt your performance. For $150 you can get a name brand (flowmaster, magnaflow....) universal muffler spliced onto your stock 2" piping. I was getting 38 mpg with the K&N dropin filter and my flowmaster muffler. But then I got an Injen CAI and my mileage dropped to 30 mpg because I was burning a lot more feul with all the air I'm sucking in now.

You'll like the filter, but the most bang for the buck with the XRS is a new muffler, which won't void any warranties either (except for the old can that you throw away anyways). Remember you don't need a "catback" because we already have 2" diameter piping from the factory which is plenty for a 1.8L NA motor.

Can someone post steps to install the k&n drop-in filter? I got mine in the mail today. Want to make sure I know the steps before getting under the hood. Thanks in advance.

It's pretty simple. Pop the hood and on the driver's side locate the intake airbox. Pop it open, remove the stock air filter, "drop-in" the K&N and close everything up!

The stock intake is just behind the battery.

Simply flip up the brass clips and it should open up.

Wink Reset computer after k&n filter install

I thought this info may be helpful. I came across this at k&n site under the FAQ section. Looks like the car should adjust itself gradually without action. However, we can also force it by disconnecting battery power as a last resort.

*******************
On fuel injected vehicles the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) computer and emissions control system will adjust for the increase in air. The OEM computer will adjust immediately if it is reset. Removing the battery cable from the battery for 15 minutes or more should reset it. On some carbureted models you may have to richen the mixture when switching from a paper filter to a K&N air filter or intake kit.
