Hatch Window - Keyless entry

Hello I am new to the forum. The keyless entry feature for the hatch on my 2006 Matrix isn't working. The doors will lock and unlock with the remote, but the hatch window button on the remote will not open the rear window. Is this something I need to bring back to the dealer or is there a way to program it without going all the way back to the dealer (76 mile round trip). Thanks!

Yeah, you have to hold it down for a few secs before it pops open. It's not as quick/sensitive as the doors.

I had trouble with this initially too. I'm guessing it has a slow response on purpose -- Because it is easy to push one of those buttons on purpose as you are digging for your keys, and you can't "fix" it by pushing another button (you actually have to go back there) they want to make sure you don't pop it accidentally.

Are you holding down the button or are you just pressing it quickly like you do with the locks? It needs to be held. If you have had and dash work done lately it may not have been plugged back into the switch. You can check this by prying out the switch on the dash and checking to see if it is plugged in.

good luck...

I think on mine once, I popped the rear hatch but didn't actually open it all the way. The hatch ended up locking itself back up, kind of like what the automatic locks will do if you unlock the car via remote but don't open the doors for a while.

The manual says if you unlock the doors or hatch with the remote then they will automatically lock back after 30 seconds if you haven't opened the door or the hatch

Read the owners manual

Read the owners manual, read the ownwers manual, read the owners manual.
If you buy a used car and it doesn't have one, go to the dealer and buy one.
The manual clearly states that you have to hold the button down for a couple of seconds to unlock the hatch glass. This is something of a security / safety issue so you don't unlock it without realizing it.

OR download it of the net

OR ask nicely at a dealer and they will get you one for free!

While on this subject, noticed that noone has mentioned my pet peeve so close to this very issue. That the "Panic Button" is located directly on the off side of the rear window release on the remote. So if you use the most obvious method to depress the window button (pinch the remote with thumb and fore finger) you stand a good chance of triping the blasted "Panic Button".

Your horn is honking, the lights are flashing, you are standing next to this rig in the middle of a parking lot....surrounded by strangers who now think you are trying to steal this Matrix. I love Toyota quality, but I have to suspect that there are mysterious forces at work down there that secretly wants to punish the customers.
