Just a couple of simple question on your opinions to style and practicality. I am about to order my new Matrix XR 2006 tomorrow. I didn't focus on the rear bumper protector until looking tonight on the Toyota site, so I didn't actually see it on the vehicle. Is it more common to have, or not have, the bumper protector and how does this affect protection or esthetics? Also are the all-season mats carpet or rubber-type? Thanks.
If you put bulky stuff in the back of your car it would be a good option to have so you dont
scratch the top of the painted bumper, it looks nice and it seems a lot of matrixes have it.
I dont know about the mat, mine has the carpet type.
Just ordered mine too. XR 2006 ink blue, I'll installed the rear bumper protector. If you have kids and you're renovating, you're bound to use the car to transport stuff. Might as well protect it. Once it's scratch, you can't go back.
I ordered my XR this week and I did go with the rear bumper protector, because with kids, camping, sports stuff, I figured it's the way to go. I got the Titanium Silver. Just waiting for delivery.
OEM they want, what, $99 for it? If you would have bought it after, through parts, you could have gotten it for about $25-35. It only sticks on with 3M tape.

Wow, that's not cheap. I have it for 60$ CDN (installed) at the dealership.
i bought mine after i got bumped into at a red light....all of the damage is covered by the new version of the bumper protector which wraps around the bumper slightly....
i didnt like the protector aesthetically before i got it, but now i dont mind it. its super functional too....i use my car a lot for hauling stuff (everyone seems to ask for my help nowadays) and now i dont worry about scraping up my back bumper....i got mine for about 60CAD from the dealer and i put it on myself....its just a couple strips of 3m tape that hold it on.....its peanuts to do yourself...
the only annoyance i find is that because its held on by one 3' strip of 3m tape, it holds the water on the bumper...and as it dries, it leaves whatever dirt was in the water on the bumper....its a minor annoyance, but an annoyance all the same....
its still worth the $$$ if you use your car to haul, imo
If you are concerned about the look like I was, then choose the 3M bumper protector you would never know it's there unless you are told, that's what i have on mine. The entire front bumper, and fogs/head lights + Side mirrors are protected by 3M chipguard one of the best $$ spent on my ride looks like th eday it rolled off the lot.
