USA Gas cap problem

Hi. my Mom purchased a new 2005 Matrix XR 4x4. She has arthritis in her hands & experiences much trouble when filling the car with gas. I've purchased a tool to help her open the gasoline tank nozzle but that didn't fit her car. Even when I try, it feels awkward to open the car's gas tank. She has to ask for help at the gas station so that she can fill her tank. Has anyone else experienced this?

You have to keep the cap tight so you won't get a CEL. That makes it kind of hard to open again. There isn't a way around it unless you live with the CEL. 5 is the magic number of clicks although some will say you must make it click exactly 23,471 times.

Use a piece of 2x4 lumber and notch out the edge so it fits on the center lip of the gas cap. She can the use both hands to loosen up the cap.

You can also use a old handle (from a shovel) and also notch the end out.
