Someone Must Know?

Ok I’ve posted before about help installing my fog lights at other forums. And I got pretty close but I still can’t get it done. so...

I have a 2003 matrix base trim. I bought aftermarket fog lights and I am trying to install them. I bought a relay for the fog lights from Toyota dealer. Using wiring diagrams in my manual I was able to mount the fog lights and use the pre-existing wires that run from the relay box to the fog lights. So that part is done.

The next part is connecting my switch under the dash. That’s where my problem lays. I was contacted by a couple of members and the told me to take of the steering column and use the wires there to connect my switch.

After doing that I located the Red / Yellow wire and the Green / Orange wire which I was told to use to connect my switch. Using a multi-tester I found out that my Red/ Orange wire has 12V sitting on it. And the Green / Orange is zero. So from my understanding I am supposed to ground the Red/Yellow and that should turn on my fog lights when the switch is turned on. I tried grounding my Red/Yellow wire, and for some reason my high beams come on instead of the fog lights. Is there something that I am not doing correctly, I believe that I followed the suggestion of members correctly and using wiring diagrams I think I’m doing everything correctly.

If anyone has any input on this I would really appreciate it. I can feel that I am like 1cm away from getting my fog lights to turn on but I’m just not quite there.

If I did something wrong, let me know what to do differently and also exactly how am I supposed to complete the wiring diagram ie. How to connect my aftermarket switch and using what wires?

As you can see I am not a pro at modifications, and I admit that I might be a little confused, but I hope that someone can help me out. I would appreciate any input! Thanks!

Serge

I have that same prob. but on an '03 xrs model. I sold my front bumper cover and got an aftermarket kit and needed new fogs. I tried to splice into the existing wire but it stays on for a while then they just cut out and never come on again. The part your talking about in the steering column is one of the mods i did as well. It's for taking of you DRL's and being able to just have your fogs on and your lows and hi-s at the same time. I'm thinking the wire gauges aren't correct for my car but i dunno. I still wanna use the existing fog switches on the steering column but i can't get them to work.

Have you located the zip files available for download? Those may have the necessary information. I will edit with a link if I can find it. The thread is on the MO site.
