'05 Matrix - Picky CD player issue

Hi,

Just bought my Matrix (gently used about 6 weeks ago. At first the factory CD player worked fine, but lately it's gotten really picky about which CDs it will play. It seems to be unable to read the disk... it just whirs them around and around and then spits them out. It's not the CDs; I've tested them in other players and they work fine. They're also store-bought, not burned. None of the disks in question have any sort of "enhancement" or copy-protection.

Has anyone else experienced/heard of this problem?

Thanks!

Yes, I still have a little while left on the factory warranty. I was just hoping that someone knew some miraculous quick-fix, since getting my car into the dealership shop is both heinous and time-consuming

Well I figured you could try to score a replacement instead of a quick fix which could revert at any given time.

picky cd reading is either a dirty/damaged laser or circuit issues. try buying a cheap cd cleaner...the ones at like walmart to see if its not a dirty laser, worst case you may lose $10. Otherwise, go to the dealer, tell them the issue, try not to get the car held overnight...it should be 30 minute replacement... (i've pulled the thing out, its not complicated to change). New stereo can never hurt!
