Bent wiper blades scratched windshield

I own a 2005 Matrix, and during the winter as I had to turn on my wipers, there was a terrible scratching sound. When I looked at my blades, the tip had come out of the rubber, and was bent at a 90 degree angle, causing it to scratch my windshield. Has anyone else had this same problem, and if so, what did you do about it, was it covered under warranty to get your windshield replaced? The wipers are original to the car.

I had that happen to an old junker I was driving in school because I was cheap and just replaced the insert and didn't snap it in properly , it actually flew off... I just drove with it like that...But on my car now I went to a triple blade and last fall some of the wind blown debris like micro-sized stones and pollen got trapped in the two extra groves on the blades and when I turned my wipers on it dragged two scratches across the drivers side windshield .....I decided to wait till spring to get it fixed since it was starting to snow and I live in an apartment.., I called a guy last week and will have him come out this Friday..I told him the problem and he quoted me $35 and would come to my car and "polish" the scratches out...He said that the scratches will come out as long as you can't catch the scratch running your finger nail over it...I threw those "triple threads" away ...If your dealer put those inserts in as some do during scheduled maintenance, they might be at fault ...Good Luck...Radd
