Canada Cargo cover... :(

Hi all,

I love the Matrix, and it's currently on my top 3 list of cars to buy.

However, the one thing I don't really dig is the cargo cover... I mean, what were they thinking??

Is there a better one available?

The Dodge Caliber has a decent one, and I wish Toyota had the same ....

any thoughts?

My top list to buy:

Matrix/Vibe
Yaris RS 2-door (which is quite expensive for what it is)
Dodge Caliber
and sure, a used VW TDI Golf

Initially, I thought the flimsy cargo cover was crap too. But w/ more use, I appreciated it for being so flimsy. It allows you to cram stuff in the trunk while having your cargo still covered. Sure, it bulges out like a mofo but hey, it's still hidden from nosey passerbys. I'm glad it isn't solid.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Problem is, the cargo cover doesn't help you if you use the glass hatch (which I love! what an amazing idea!!!). The cover blocks the cargo area enough that you'd have to play with it, not great in the winter with a dirty car.

Second problem, the thing looks cheesy.. it just flops around. The Dodge Caliber one isn't rigid..

It's on a spring loaded retractor, just like a set of blinds on your house! It's sweet, just pull, and lock into place. A lot of wagons have this (Kia Rio V even has this!)

I bet Toyota will work this into their next Matrix redesign..

Anyone else hate or love their cargo cover??!?!?!

That's about the only ONE thing I hate about the car (and the super long front overhang of the front end, I think it looks kinda ugly, but, I'll overlook that for now ..

Cheers

I'm not particularly fond of my cargo cover either but I never use it. Most things that I carry in the back of my car would etend beyond the cover anyway. I love the cargo nets though. If that is your only complaint about a Matrix then go buy one already! It's a great car. I love mine!

I have to admit, when I first bought the car, all I cared about that it came with one. But when I brought it home to put it on, I was disappointed. However, that being said, after a while, you grow to like it (easier to store in the car's 1000 hidden compartments than the hard retractable ones is one good thing about it).

But, even if I knew about it before I bought the Matrix, the outcome would've been the same.

There are some ppl at matrixowners.com that have done a custom cover. You might want to search for it over there.

Good luck with the decision making and purchase.

oh and one more thing. Why don't you come out to the east-end monthly meet this Saturday. You will get to mingle with other owners. It might help you with the buying process. If you decide to come here's the details:

Canada Cargo Cover

I use to use mine but i got the window's tinted so you can't see in anyways. But i prefer the flimsy cover over the rigid ones, easyer to move and store out of the way.

I've found one from Auto Parts Online. Added floor mats would surely be a good match.

Cargo Cover

If you buy a Matrix you WILL get used to the Cargo Cover. If you buy a Dodge Caliber, you will want to have your very own Gas Station. Like any other Chrysler Product they drink Gas like there is no tomorrow. In case you did`nt know . . . . . A Vibe is NOT a Matrix. The Vibe is built in California, uses G M drive axels and ball joints and worst of all G M Paint ! You won`t go wrong with the Yaris or the V W.

I sort of wondered what was the actual difference between the Vibe and Matrix. As I read it uses the same engine and pretty much everything else.
