Low Idle?

Hey guys/gals,

New guy here, just bought the wife an '03 Matrix XR AWD. She went from an '01 Nissan Altima. But since we moved from NYC to Upstate, NY, with the crazy snow, she needed something AWD. Car is more spacious than the Altima, I was surprised at how much more legroom I had in it, especially since I drive an '05 Chevy Trailblazer.

I did a search but couldn't find any relevant answer. Anyways, point of the post is that the car idles very very low, varies between 4-500 RPM. Car shakes like a mofo when at a stop light, very annoying. Matrix only has 30K on the ODO.....I thought that maybe the throttle body was dirty, so I bought some intake cleaner and gave it a good cleaning, didn't work. Pulled the - terminal on the battery to reset the ECU, drove it for a week so that the ECU relearns, still didn't work.

So my question is, what should be the normal idle speed for an '03 XR AWD? Is idling below 500 RPM normal?

Thanks a mil!!

Sounds like a vacuum leak to me ( shaking engine at an Idle and low RPM.

The normal RPM should be 750 - 800 RPM. Take it to a dealer if you are not confident in trouble shooting, at 30K it should still be under warranty.

No check engine light yet? If yes find out the OBD2 code, go to autozone they read it for free.

No CEL and the car still has the full warranty for another 70K miles!

I'll check for any leaks over the weekend, problem is, engine rattles so much, would be hard to hear LOL

Thankz!
