Go for it since it's your money, just make sure you ain't gonna regret the decision later on. And FYI: the V8 Hemi engine sound that you hear from the Caliber commercial.....you don't get that as standard nor as option

Well darn !! I'm not getting it now. LOL. No, the reason I posted is to see if anyone on here compared their matrix to the caliber. Or know anyone who has one, to get their opinions.

the caliber is nice. Has the chill zone above the glove box for your drinks, nice system, nice controls, looks nice outside, good storage space. But id keep the matrix, got that toyota quality and just a lot better car.. plus its safer

even though i traded my matrix for a corolla, i recently test drove a caliber 1.8l 5 spd. my matrix was a 5 speed base model.

utility--id say caliber and matrix have exactly the same utility.

looks--ok, but the lines to me are very sloppy, the body just has no smooth flow from front to back. from the front, it does look like a dodge pickup truck. the center console stack(where radio and heater/ac controls are) looks like a separate piece was glued on to the dash; uneven gaps between stack and dash. matrix interior much nicer in my opinion.

ride--about as smooth as matrix, and really no quieter. feels slower than the matrix cause its pushin somewhat more weight.

gas mileage--no contest here. from visiting caliber forums, owners are struggling to get 30 mpg on highway. Chrysler has never been involved in fuel efficient engines, as is the case here. plus, caliber is more bloated weight wise than necessary for a car in its class. my matrix always got 36-38 mpg on the highway and 32+ in the city.

overall, there is not one single thing that would cause me to choose a caliber over a matrix.

beyond every factor mentioned, there is still the issue of reliability. anyone can do the research there: looking at frequency of repairs over the long haul, chryler products have faired poorly historically. will caliber be better. who knows? go ahead and buy one and let us know

The Caliber has a terrible fuel economy compared to the Matrix, a cheap interior, resale sucks, quality is not the Toyota level. Keep your Matrix.

The only thing I like better about the caliber is the looks. Call me tacky, but there is something I find "tough guy" like about it. I do like most everything about my Matrix, except I think it looks a little more feminine (flame away). I haven't done anything but look at the pictures and read one or two reviews as of yet. Just beginning to pique my interests. Thank you all for replying to a guy who isn't very well known(me).

I have to agree with what others said regarding quality and economics of the Caliber. But if you have your heart set on it, go for a test drive to see for yourself and let us know what your impressions are. Also, cruise the Caliber forums and see what owners are saying about it, that might help. I'd keep the Matrix but obviously its totally up to you. Good luck!!!

The real issue is with the lack of quality in the Chrysler products.

You pay out some much money and then you are left with plenty of problems.

quality issues? im not sure any of us should talk about quality issues for the matrix....

ive had so much crap go wrong with my matrix xrs that i dont even want to get into here....

that said, the caliber is ugly. but if you like the mini-durango look...get one...

inside theyre pretty much the same layout as a matrix but with dodge styling...

the caliber has some neat features....but that chill zone just rerouts some of the air venting into the compartment....so only chills stuff if you have the a/c on. i rarely use the a/c so thats kind of a useless feature to me...

anyways....trade if you want....but youll just be getting a matrix with a dodge coat on it...

like i said before. The only thing I really liked so far was the styling . I've been over to caliberforums.com and the reviews are split on the quality. It must be a hot seller. People have been waiting 6 to 12 weeks to get theirs . I still haven't driven one probably will this week end. I'll post my review on this thread. Keep in touch if your interested.

Question Short Sun visor??

The sun visor is short. When its swung towards the door window to block out the sun its too short and the evening sun shines in. Any idea what to do. I called Toyota for an extendable one which they do not make and tried the extra sun visors from PepBoys and AutoZone but those plastic gadgets do not help at all as they will not fit in the Matrix practically.
Any idea how I can extend the driver side Sun Visor? for Toyota trying to cut corners at reducing costs. So incovenient.

I have a XRS ok car. Tried the Caliber liked the

extra leg room for tall people.
5 star frontal crash test ratings for both passenger and driver plus point
5 star for driver and four star for passenger on the 2003 matrix
side curtain and knee airbags with standard ABS on the caliber
ok drive engine noise less than the matrix but more road noise
less storage space in the rear than the matrix
Do not know about the gas mileage
Caliber seems much stronger than the Matrix when it comes to passenger safety
Do your homework before the change

I am thinking if I should change to the caliber, with Mercedes & Chrysler collaboration the technology and reliability standards may have changed on the Caliber. Could I be correct at that than I would go for the Caliber?
