Rust!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was washing my Vibe over the weekend and found some nasty rust spots on it.

I am wondering if any of you have seen this on their Trix/Vibe or heard of this... my car is not even 4 yrs old yet and there is major rust showing on the rear glass hatch bottom seal area. I will take it to the dealer because this is obviously either a design problem or a construction/material problem...

There is no other sign of rust anywhere on the car and this is not an area where stones could hit and chip the paint or where salt/calcium would easily attacke the sheet metal (as compared to the bottom of the car).

That's terrible....

Mistamatrix had a similar problem. The only other rust area that I have is underneath the rocker panel foot protection moldings (black plastic you see on the floor when you open the door).

Water just accumulates there (below the front part of the plastic molding) and then rust starts.

I removed the plastic covers (one each door frame) for now.

Dejavu! We almost have it at the exact same spot! I discovered mine at the end of winter/early spring of this year.

Have you brought it back to the dealer?

What have you done about it?

I heard that the Pontiac Vibe is GM paint. Is this true?

Exclamation rust sucks.

well i have to say that i think you are out of luck. the rear hatch unfortunately does have a small area rwhere road salt and water can stay even when your moving. aka rust formations will start. as for the paint it is gm paint and toyota paint is their own.
good luck

Just wanted to do a follow up on this issue.,..I have not yet gone to the dealer with the rust problem, but I have found this information that was published by GM

Not sure if they will cover it under warranty....if not I will wait until it perforates and then go back to the dealer!

Nope warranty (initial 3yrs) is over, but still under the 6yrs rust perforation warranty!

But since it is a known problem with the car, it should be fixed.... they say in the document that it is caused by a fixture during the assembly.

If the dealer doesn't want to help...I will make it perforate and then they will have to address the issue!

I don't think it matters if your car is under warranty or not, a recall is a recall and as long as your car has not been fixed for that recall, they still have to fix it.
