Canada Door locks won't lock?

As the title says they just won't lock?

Car is a 2003 XR.

Normally I could start the car and the first time I apply the brakes all the doors automatically lock. Shut the car off and they unlock. <-- I assume this is normal although my sisters matrix does not do this?

Often the problem has been that the doors just won't lock (keyless entry), I can't even lock them with the botton in the car to lock all the doors? I have to manually lock each door one at a time. the unlocking mechanism works fine, just won't lock? It's become such a pain that I often just leave the doors unlocked
I'll even disconnect the battery to reset the computer, and eveything goes back to normal.

My manual is in french so I can't read it

Anybody else run into this problem?

See if replacing the battery in the remote does anything. Consider the cheap fix first...
