What is "Lift"

I am a prospective Matrix buyer who has been reading this forum for a week or so. I see references to "lift" and "hitting lift". Can someone explain what that means. Thx.

That's when a Matrix (or Corolla) XRS is revved to ~6000rpm, when its high output cam profile kicks in. Expect a surge in power all the way through redline @ ~8200rpm.

You can thank the 2ZZ-GE engine and its VVTL-i system for this.

At ~6800rpm, you get 40 hp out of nowhere basically. Assuming of course you drive "briskly" enough and rev that high, it's a blast!

The Corolla XRS also has some suspension upgrades and a unique interior which are not found on the other Corollas.

With a cold air intake, Lift is downright violent when it engages at 6700 rpm in the 2650 lbs Corolla XRS with 40 HP by 7000 rpm ( so in just 300 rpm) and holds the power up till 8400 rpm since it sucks air like crazy and the stock airbox (size of a straw) deprives it of the air needs. The intake gives all the air it needs to gobble up .Stock, the transition is relatively milder. Lift is one of the most entertaining I have experienced so far.

lol....no one is even talking about Honda, yet you need to dr*g your Honda in here. Full of sh*t. b16 has nothing on the 2ZZ-GE. Nothing at all. It is a Celica GTS engine that has 170 HP stock. Unless heavily modified There is no pre-06 Civic Si (both the coupe and the hatch model) that could remotely hang with me even when I was stock after shifting into 3rd gear. Corolla XRS runs low 15s bonestock on the dragstrip and in road tests. There is your full bolt on 00 Si getting destroyed by a Corolla XRS.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=BZwrsyxrnTo&search=xrs

Here is XRS tested at 15.4@92mph:

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ecs_price.html

True, you can kill XRS or Celica GTS in your sports car S2000, but you make what 240?...looolll.. If you want to race a 2ZZ-GE then try pulling those tricks on a similarly priced 2ZZ-GE powered Lotus Elise. You will eat it's dust all day long on the straights or around a race track...lol.

p.s. Simple VTEC has no variable valve timing and only lift on the intake cam while 2ZZ does have valve timing on the intake cam and lift on both intake and exhaust cams. Honda built the K20 i-VTEC engine that has lift and vvt on the intake cam with lift on both intake and exhaust cams.

Look below for sport compact comparo of Integra Type R vs Celica GTS vs GS-R vs Prelude. The Celica GTS ran 15.3 to the Type R's 14.7 only because the Type R is rev limited at 8800 rpm while the GTS makes power until 8400 rpm:

this joker makes me laugh I guess that's why Lotus went with a Toyota engine rather than a Honda one for its Elise.

Guess it's time for someone to put you in your place. VTEC has already been beaten, if not by Toyota, then by Porsche's VarioCam Plus system. Even the base Boxster (with the same driver) will get a quicker lap time than the S2000 (proved by Top Gear), so the S2000 is nothing to cheer about.

So kiddo, sometimes it's better to be humble and keep your trap shut. But I guess you're brought up where you're taught to open your pie-hole at the worst possible time, it might even get you killed in real life. Talking shit doesn't work against people with intelligence, just so you know.

I dont even consider the S2000 as a sports car. To race that car you have to say in high revs or else if you come down too low it just falls on its ass. I have even heard some where where a stock S2000 was dynoed and only made 175whp, I have no proof of that but its what i have heard. Who would spend $50,000 on roadster civic...? End of my rant sorry for going off topic.

Why in that magizine does it say that the Celica redlines at 7800rpm i thought it was 8400rpm

Celica GTS 00,01, 03 - 04 (drive by wire) had a redline at 7800 rpm and revlimited at 8400 rpm just like the XRS, but the XRS redline is at 8250 rpm. The 02 and 05 model GTS were revlimited at 7800 rpm.

Type like an adult and it woudl be easier to respect what you have to say.

Your "homie" is racing stock 1zz corollas probably, or celica GT also with 1zz motor.

The B16 is a great motor, with stronger internals and a raised redline (I'm talking 10K rpms here) it is amazing, but short of spending thousands of dollars on it there is really nothing special about the B16, or any other B series motor. Even the famed Integra GS-R is no faster than a stock XRS, they are dead even in any and all tests and respond equally well to mods, the only dfiference being more mods available for the GSR because it is a honda with VEEETECCCC which means it is sooooo fast and cool

VTEC is completely different and can't be compared. The Toyota motor does what VTEC does, and more, all with much less weight due to a more efficient system.

Remember ricers, just because one car is more popular does not mean that it performs better. I'll take the 4 door that everyone thinks is slow but runs low 15s stock and has dirt cheap insurance, than a fricken honda coupe that runs 17s and has high insurance.

Your Honda S2000 has nothing to do with this conversation, you wasted more than 30K on a fricken honda miata lookalike girl car. Enjoy it....

I dont think it s a fair comparrison, the type R is heavily modified from the factory, and costs 50% more than the celica GTS.

Mod for mod the GTS would eat the integra alive....
