Automatic transmision fluid level check

I looked in the Matrix manual and cannot locate any reference on how to check the auto trans fluid level. Most of my vehicles had manual transmissions so I am a little lost. Should the engine be running? Transmission oil hot/cold? I have the 130 HP engine if that makes a difference. Thanks. Also are there any inexpensive service/repair manuals published. I searched for Haynes and Chilton but no luck. Stuart

If the transmission has a dipstick, the fluid is normally checked with fluid hot, engine at idle and running the gear selector from Park to Low and back. Then with engine at idle check use the Hot marks on the dipstick.

The cold marks (if applicable) can be used for refilling the transmission after an oil change by doing the same procedure above.

Do not overfill the transmission.
